Ellen Moore has performed as a violinist in the orchestras of Toronto’s major musical theatre productions for thirty years, including the original orchestra of Phantom of the Opera; the world premiere of Hal Prince and Susan Stroman’s revival of Showboat; the world premiere production of Ragtime; Sunset Boulevard; Mirvish’s The Producers, and Piaf/Dietrich; Podium Concert Productions’ The Secret Garden and Nine; South Korea’s first major musical, The Last Empress; and the touring production of Book of Mormon. She also played on the Canadian cast soundtrack recordings of many of these shows. She has accompanied many of the great singers of musical theatre, including Patti Lupone, Audra MacDonald, Colm Wilkinson, Rebecca Caine, Mandy Patinkin, Betty Buckley, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Lea Salonga, and Diahann Carroll.
Ellen has performed in concert and in recording with international artists including Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, The Tenors, Ray Charles, Anne Murray, Natalie Cole, Dionne Warwick, Burt Bacharach, Deep Purple, Donna Summer, Liza Minnelli, Sarah McLachlan, Roger Hodgson, and many others. She has appeared on PBS and CBC television specials, played on the soundtrack for the iconic video game Cuphead, and recorded numerous TV and radio commercials.
She has performed on a regular basis with many Toronto area symphony orchestras and choral groups, including the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Hamilton Philharmonic, Toronto Concert Orchestra, and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. She also performs Iranian music with the Canadian Golha Orchestra.
Ellen studied principally with one of North America’s foremost violin teachers, David Zafer, and has also studied Arabic violin with Simon Shaheen and Layth Sidiq at the Arabic Music Retreat in Mount Holyoke, MA.
